Description
(Brassica oleracea ‘Graffiti’)
An attractive purple form of this popular and healthy vegetable.
Flavours/Food Partners
Like all cauliflowers the purple form is a great eating vegetable with both leaves and the ‘head’ being edible. They are great baked, steamed, fried or even raw. Baked they partner well with basil and garlic. Steamed or raw they taste great with caraway and cumin seeds. Puree with a bit of ginger or fresh chives.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal
Cauliflower Graffiti has more antioxidants than the white or orange forms otherwise they have the same high level of nutrition and relatively low in calories. Do not overcook or boil as they will lose their delightful flavour and all the good nutrition. Cauliflower is a great aid in liver regeneration and over all good health. For a tasty summer salad, cut cauliflower head into small florets and lightly steam until just starting to soften and then toss with some good olive oil and a mix of caraway and cumin seeds.
Landscaping/Planting
Plant in sunny position in well drained but moist soil. Also suited to large pots.
Cultivation/Fertiliser
Harvest when heads are 10 to 12cm across. Keep reasonably moist and fertilise with Seasol and Powerfeed regularly.
