Goji’s have a sweet flavor similar to Cranberry or Sultana and can be used in sweet or savory dishes. Tuey partner with sweeter herbs like most mints, parsley, coriander and in salads, sauces and casseroles with tomatoes and onions. Excellent added to mixed fried rice or other similar dishes.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal
They are easy to use dried or rehydrated and can be added at all stages of cooking. Great eaten raw as an in between snack or on top of the morning breakfast cereal. As with any Asian plant that has been used for 1000 plus years there are stories and rumours about what it can and cannot cure. Most are just stories and have been challenged in many courts. However like all similar fruits they are high in Vitamins C and A, phyto chemicals and are also good sources of plant based protein.
Landscaping/Planting
This quick growing vine likes fertile well drained soil in part to full sun. Will grow well in any garden and also in large pots.
Cultivation/Fertiliser
Harvest fruit in late autumn and then prune to keep in shape. Do not prune prior to fruiting and it may take a year or two to set fruit. Give regular applications of Seasol and Powerfeed to keep the plant healthy and producing well.
