A medium sized bush with masses of bright red, extremely hot fruit. Harvest regularly to encourage more fruit. Also know as Smokin Ed’s ‘Carolina Reaper’ and was grown by The PuckerButt Pepper Company in the US and was rated world’s hottest chilli in 2013.
Flavours/Food Partners
Garlic, ginger, coriander, basil, galangal, turmeric, lemon grass, cumin. All meats and most vegetables along with coconut, lime and lemon all go well with chillis. Carolina Reaper is a very hot chilli (1.6m SCU) and should only be used in cooking and never eaten raw.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal
Chillies form an integral part of many Asian and Latin American dishes along with some European, African and North American. Indeed over time most cuisines have added this fiery little fruit into their recipes. There are many forms that very in colour, shape, flavour and of course heat. This is a smaller sized, square fruit with a rough skin. It is extremely hot and as such it should not be eaten raw and only used in small amounts in cooked food.
Landscaping/Planting
Plant in a protected spot out of fierce sunlight and wind in a well drained but moist soil. May need some support when it ages. Do not over water during winter.
Cultivation/Fertiliser
Regular applications of Seasol and Power Feed will keep the plant looking good and producing lots of super hot chillies.
