(Allium cepa)
A versatile and easy-to-grow onion with an attractive red skin and white flesh with red rings. They have a sweet taste without the pungent traditional onion odour.
Flavours/Food Partners
This pretty onion pairs well with most salad ingredients and can be eaten raw or cooked. Use with herbs such as chives, parsley, sage, thyme, fennel and basil are all complementary food partners. Excellent in stir-fries and seafood dishes.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal
Onions are a healthy vegetable with lots of good nutritional benefits. They are low in carbohydrates, sugars and fats. High in fibre, they are alsb o a good source of Vitamins C and B6. They are known to be high in antioxidants and have good anti-inflammatory properties. They are odourless but still good for the health.
Landscaping/Planting
Odourless Red Onions prefer an open sunny site. They require a moderately rich, fertile free draining slightly alkaline soil.
Cultivation/Fertiliser
Harvest when the foliage browns off and falls over. Regular applications of Seasol and Powerfeed while the plants grow will keep them healthy and producing well.
