A semi deciduous large shrub with attractive white summer flowers and pungent lemon scented foliage that makes the most delightful tea.
Flavours/Food Partners
Lemon Verbena partners well with chives, basil, mint, parsley, ginger and works well with fish, pork and chicken. Blend with mints, scented geranium, fruit sages or lemon balm for healthy and refreshing herbal teas.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal
Lemon Verbena leaves can be added to salads and to marinades and sauces for eggs, pork and fish. Plant in any well drained to general soil in a sunny and airy position. As a skewer long, firm tip stems of around 20cm should be selected. Remove soft tip and lightly strip most of the foliage along the stem. Dice the chosen meat (white fish is best) and prehole the cubes and then place on the stem intermingled with vegetable pieces like peppers, onion, aubergine etc. Cook over hot coals until desired texture is achieved.
Landscaping/Planting
Plant in any well drained to general soil in a sunny and airy position. Best grown as a specimen plant or unclipped hedge.
Cultivation/Fertiliser
Require regular applications of Seasol and Powerfeed. Water during summer months when dry.
