Attractive red ribs and deep green leaves make this chicory a great garden plant as well as a nice eating leafy vegetable.
Growing Tips
Prefers moist well drained soil in a sunny position. Frost and drought tolerant.
Use
Chicory is a must for any mesclun salad mix due to its slightly bitter flavour. The red rib also adds contrasting colour. Use in salads or as a base for cooked vegetables, fish and pasta. Is nice used in Caesar salad with the blue cheese dressing and anchovies. High in Vitamins A, B1 and C. A traditional digestive and liver tonic.
