A sun loving, plant with attractive grey and cream, lemon scented foliage with pretty pink mauve flowers in summer.
Flavours/Food Partners
Tea herbs and other forms of thyme, oregano, rosemary, garlic, parlsey and chives. Enhances strong flavored poultry and fish. Excellent in stuffings and with basil and garlic for lightly cooked green vegetables. Flowers and variegated foliage add a blend of citrus and thyme and make good garnishes for salads.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal
Thyme can be used at all stages of cooking. Early for strong flavour in soups, casseroles etc, late for stir fries and salads or as a garnish for any savory dish.. It is high in many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are all essential for optimum health.
Landscaping/Planting
Plant in dry exposed spots with full sun and good air movement. It needs little water and will die in heavy, wet soils.
Cultivation/Fertiliser
Regular applications of Seasol and Powerfeed in spring and autumn will keep the plant healthy and growing well. Give a hard prune in late summer.
