(Lycopersicon esculentum ‘Nipple’)
A medium sized bush with deep pink to red fruit each with a pointed nipple at the end. A nice Italian cultivar with a rich but sweet taste.
A good salad variety that is enhanced by herbs like parsley, chives and celery leaf. Great for any dish with raw or lightly cooked fruit.
Like all tomatoes, Nipple is high in the cancer fighting agent, Lycopene. This is enhanced by light to moderate cooking. They are high in Vitamins A, B1, B2 and C. Serve in salads, sandwiches or lightly fry with red onions, garlic, rosemary and fresh basil.
Plant in an airy, sunny position in well drained soil or very large pots. Requires a 1.2 to 1.5m stake.
Like all tomatoes it must receive a deep soaking when almost dry and should not receive overhead watering. Feed regularly with Seasol and Powerfeed. A small amount of dolomite lime after planting will make stronger plants. Harvest when fruit is full color.
