Description
(Thymus ciliatus)
A sun loving, ground hugging plant that forms agrey wool-like carpet with pretty pink flowers in summer.
Flavours/Food Partners
This variety of thyme is very mild in flavour and is not normally used in cooking although the flowers and foliage make good garnishes.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal
It can be used in teas and mouth washes when a more subtle flavour is desired. With the furry appearance it is a nice addition to potpourri mixes.
Landscaping/Planting
Plant in dry exposed spots with full sun and good air movement. It is excellent as a filler between pavers and in rockeries where the fuzzy foliage and white flowers are quite attractive and the soft aroma is pleasing on the senses. It needs little water and will die in heavy, wet soils.
Cultivation/Fertiliser
Regular applications of Seasol and PowerFeed in spring and autumn will keep the plant healthy and growing well.
