A medium growing ,purple leaved sage from southern Europe with purple flowers in summer.

Growing Tips

Prefers a well drained location. Tough perennial that looks good in any general cottage garden bed or as a border planting. Good for general landscaping in dry areas.

Use

Can be added at any stage in the cooking and the young leaves are a little milder and can also be used in teas, jellies and various drinks. Will aid a sore throat when used as a gargle with some mint. Flavours well with other strong herbs like rosemary, garlic, parsley, thyme – all varieties, coriander, cardamom, oregano and marjoram. Use to enhance strong or game flavoured meats like duck, .pork, lamb and venison or with strong vegetables like potato, pumpkin, leek and onion. Good in herb stuffing.
