Tuscan food is known for its simple style yet complex flavours coming from a blend of regional herbs that have been used for cooking and healing since Roman times.
A medium growing, olive leaved sage from southern Europe with lilac to purple flowers in summer.
Food Partners
Taste of Tuscany herbs should be blended together in ratios as required for each dish. They all blend well with some basics of the modern and old kitchen like onions, tomatoes and garlic. The flavours are strong so best used with heavy or game style meats.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal
Sage can be added at any stage in the cooking and the young leaves are a little milder and can also be used in teas, jellies and various drinks. Will aid a sore throat when used as a gargle with some mint.
Landscaping/Planting
Prefers a well-drained location in full sun. Tough perennial that looks good in any general cottage garden bed or as a border planting. Good for general landscaping in dry areas.
Cultivation/Fertiliser
Cut back any old or dead foliage and apply the recommended dose of Seasol and PowerFeed regularly from spring to autumn.
