Description
(Cucumis sativus ‘Richmond River Green Apple’)
A traditional Australian round apple cucumber with green fruit and a crisp white flesh.
Flavours/Food Partners
General salad vegetables also excellent with mild cheeses and fresh apples.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal
Cucumbers are an overlooked part of the diet. The skin is high in fibre and several minerals, including silica. Richmond Green is a medium sized round form with a sweet, low acid flavour that is best eaten raw in salads or even straight like an apple. Serve after dinner with sliced Edam or Gouda cheese.
Landscaping/Planting
Plant in sunny position in well drained, limey soil. Likes to be left alone once planted and prefers a solid watering at ground level when dry.
Cultivation/Fertiliser
Harvest the fruit when they are size of medium orange (after about 2 months) Do not allow to get too large as they lose flavour with size. Add lime soon after planting and fertilise with Seasol and Powerfeed whilst actively growing.
