A smallish bush with attractive carrot-like fruit that has a sweet flavour with a crunchy texture. Chillies originate from Southern America and were transported around the world by the Portuguese and from there many new cultivars were selected by growers across Europe.
Flavours/Food Partners
Most meats, seafoods and vegetables along with coconut, lime and lemon all go well with chillies. Bulgarian Carrot has large distinctive fruit with a mild heat rating and great ‘crunch’.
Health/Cooking/Medicinal
Chillies form an integral part of many Asian and Latin American dishes along with some European, African and North American.
Landscaping/Planting
Plant in a protected spot out of fierce sunlight and wind in a well drained but moist soil. May need some support when it ages.
Cultivation/Fertiliser
Regular applications of Seasol and PowerFeed will keep the plant looking good and producing lots of tasty chillies.
