Description
(Ocimum basilicum ‘Liquorice’)
A half hardy annual with deep green/purple foliage that is popular in south eastern Asian cooking.
Growing Tips
Prefers well drained sunny position in the garden or in large pots. Can be kept on a sunny kitchen window sill for easy access. It is a tender plant that needs to be kept warm.
Use
Has a tangy liquorice flavour that gives another layer fragrance to lightly cooked Asian dishes. To preserve the taste it should be added just prior to removal from the heat. Also works well as a coarse chopped garnish to stir fries, salads and desserts.
Herb Attributes
Harvest | Regularly, the more you harvest the more it will produce. If kept warm and harvested often you may even get 10 months worth of Basil leaves. |
