Briggs Nursery have been serving South Australia since 1931 in the capacity of bedding plant growers. We are a third generation business. In 2006 we had a change of direction and purchased the Renaissance and Romantic Cottage franchise. The herb range includes common & unusual herbs, tea herbs, scented geraniums, large variety of mints, thyme & rosemaries. assorted vegetables, salads, heir loom tomatoes, 30 varieties of chillies whilst the cottage range covers a vast range of popular and old time perenials. Both ranges are grown in 95mm pots.
My working life began in a builder's office with a view to train as a Quantity Surveyor. The indoor life was not for me and I found employment with Lasscocks Nursery and Garden Centre. After a period of time, I found employment with a builder involved in renovation/building work. I was able to learn a lot of skills such as concreting, tiling, stone work, scaffolding and bricklaying. Unfortunately, the building industry went into a slump and I decided to bide my time in the family nursery (A.H. & G.M. Briggs – Bedding plant specialists). By now, the short temporary stay at the family nursery had turned into years and I was now addicted to plants. I studied at Urrbrae Agricultural College and over the years, I have been assessed and now hold an Advanced Diploma in Horticulture.
Along with my wife, Denise, who has office experience with a builder's office who tendered for Government contracts. She was Secretary to the managing director and wholly responsible for the correspondence for all the directors and quantity surveyors involved in the firm. We make a good team putting our skills together and are a family business. We have a vineyard attached to our nusery selling red wine grapes and have starting making wine with a wine maker for future sales.
